Named for the famous nautical writer Richard Henry Dana Jr., Dana Point had its beginnings as a port city near Mission San Juan Capistrano in the mid 1800s. Development began in earnest during the early 1900s, with the harbor as we know it and urban spread solidifying in the mid-century. Many of the original homes in this area have a Spanish influence, but modern construction and luxury investments in the area have yielded a diverse landscape of homes. Many of the most desirable homes are found in the Lantern Streets that made up most of Dana Point’s historical downtown, as well as The Strand which borders the Strand Beach.
