Value Bomb: COVID-19 Landlord/Tenant Relationships

Hi everyone, I’ve been getting a lot of questions about the implications of COVID-19 as it relates to landlord – tenant relationships. I’ve been doing some research on it and want to share with you what I found.

Governor Newsom did sign an executive order that prohibits the enforcement of evictions through May 31st, 2020. So, a tenant is still responsible for notifying their landlord in writing if they’re unable to pay all or a portion of their rent, specifically due to COVID-19. And a tenant is also responsible for maintaining supporting documentation of such. So once the moratorium does get lifted after May 31st, a tenant is also still responsible for repayment of those rent payments in areas that may not have been paid.
